Students need wide-ruled loose leaf paper, (no
spirals!), a pen, a 2 inch 3-ring binder, and a Spanish/English dictionary. Students should keep their
binder orderly at all times. Students are advised to keep everything that is
returned to them, as they will have a notebook grade once per six weeks!
(200 points...just like an exam grade!)
Notebooks will be taken up for a grade once per
six weeks. The notebook is counted as a test grade and is averaged in with the
test grades. It is designed to help those students that are having difficulty on
tests.
In the notebook, the student will provide (in the order required) vocabulary
lists, graded quizzes, homework assignments, and practice sheets. If a student
has failed to complete certain homework assignments, he/she is given a chance to
do them and turn them in in the notebook, just for the notebook grade. So
there is no excuse for a poor notebook grade. It's very simple to do, if a
student will just do the work and keep track of his/her things!
Practice sheets are provided by the teacher in the
form of a workbook and
will be completed in class. However, if a student is absent, these
sheets are to be done as part of their homework. For each new lesson learned, the students will complete
one or two of the sheets and will have them completed at the end of the chapter.
These sheets are very important because they are a great study source for a
chapter test!!! Students are allowed to keep them to study and will turn them in
on each test day. They are taken as homework grades.
(Part of homework grade)
Students will be listening to audio segments on cassette tape and watching
certain video/DVD segments related to the chapters. There will be worksheets provided
during these times. Students are graded on their participation and effort here,
not on perfection!!! When a student is absent, there is no need to make up these
items, they are simply omitted.
22% of grade. Quizzes are graded on perfection as to answers and spelling, including accents! There will be both vocabulary and grammar quizzes.
22% of grade.
Homework is graded on completion. We review answers in class the next day, so
that students may check their work.
45% of grade.
Spanish exams will evaluate the four elements of language learning: Speaking,
Listening, Writing, and Reading. The day before the test, the student will
recite a memorized group of sentences that they prepared themselves, covering
the topic of the chapter, (Speaking). The next day, on test day, the students will
take the written portion of the test in which they will listen to audio tapes
and mark certain answers, (Listening), also they will read certain passages and
mark answers, (Reading), and fill in answers based on vocabulary and grammar,
including writing several sentences on their own on a certain topic covered in
the chapter, (Writing).
11% of grade.
Each semester there will be a final exam. The exam will be a scan tron test and
the scan tron sheets will be provided by the teacher. The student will need two
#2 pencils available on that day. There will be a two day review of all
questions on the exam. We will review 200 multiple choice questions and their
answers and out of those 200 questions, 100 of them will be on the exam itself.
When a student is absent, the student may either
consult the calendar provided on the wall at the back of the classroom for their
assignments, or the student may access my web site.
